# Connect bank accounts and view bank balances

> Connect your bank to Caleido, link bank accounts to bookkeeping accounts, add overdrafts and liquid funds, and review bank balances and bank transactions.

With a bank connection, Caleido reads balances and transactions straight from your bank. They become the opening cash for your direct cash flow and forecasts, and you can review them next to your invoices on the **AR\&AP** page.

## Connect your bank

1. Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar and select **Settings**.
2. Under **Data**, select **Integrations**.
3. Find Enable Banking and click **Connect**.
4. In **Select your bank**, choose the country and user type (**Business** or **Personal**), search for your bank and select it.
5. Sign in to your bank and approve the connection. You return to Caleido when it is done.

The connected bank shows its status, accounts, **Last sync** and **Expires** date. Bank consents expire after a while. When that happens, click **Reconnect**. To connect another bank, click **Add bank**.

## Link bank accounts to bookkeeping accounts

Once a bank is connected, the **Banking** group appears in **Settings**.

1. In **Settings**, select **Bank accounts**.
2. Click **Add bank account**.
3. Enter a **Name**, choose the **Bank account** and the **Bookkeeping account** it matches in your chart of accounts.
4. Save.
5. Turn on **Include in cash available** for each account that should count towards your available cash.

Caleido uses the balances of the accounts with **Include in cash available** on as the opening cash in the direct cash flow and in the **AR\&AP** cash flow. To edit a link, click the edit icon. To remove it, click the x.

## Add overdrafts and liquid funds

* **Overdrafts:** in **Settings**, select **Overdrafts** and click **Add overdraft**. Enter a **Name**, choose the **Bank account** and enter the limit **Amount**. Turn on **Include in cash available** if the limit should count as available cash
* **Liquid funds:** in **Settings**, select **Liquid funds** and click **Add liquid fund**. Enter a **Name** and choose the **Bookkeeping account**, for example a money market fund you can turn into cash quickly

In the **Builder**, the **Bank** section has rows for **Cash available**, **Bank balances**, **Overdraft limits** and **Liquid funds**, so you can show them in your own report templates. See [Edit a report](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/edit-a-report.md).

## View bank balances and transactions

With a bank connection, the **AR\&AP** page has two extra tabs:

* **Bank transactions** lists every transaction read from your bank, grouped by bank account
* **Bank balances** lists the balances your bank reported, by date and balance type

Set the period with the date picker at the top of the page. Open the filter panel with **Actions** > **Modify** > **Filter…**:

* **Bank account**: show one or more accounts only
* **Balance type** (**Bank balances** tab): for example **Closing booked** or **Closing available**
* **Generated** (**Bank balances** tab): **Reported only** shows balances from the bank, **Generated only** shows balances that Caleido calculated backwards from your bank transactions for days the bank didn't report

To export the list, click **Actions** > **Export** and choose **Export to Excel** or **Export to CSV**.
