# Add elements to a tab

> Put report tables, charts, KPI cards, gauges, titles and subtitles on a workbook tab, then arrange, resize, edit and delete them.

A workbook tab is a grid of elements. Each element is a card: a report table, a chart, a KPI card, a gauge, or a title. You add and arrange elements in edit mode and save the tab when you are done.

## Enter edit mode

**1. Open the tab**

Open the workbook and select the tab you want to change

**2. Start editing**

Click **Edit workbook** in the top bar. The **Items** panel opens on the left

**Edit workbook** isn't shown on tabs that hold a full page, such as **General ledger** or **Contracts**.

## Add an element

Drag an item from the **Items** panel onto the tab. You can also focus an item with the Tab key and press Enter to add it at the top of the tab.

| Item | What it adds |
| - | - |
| **Table** | A report table. Click **Select a report template** on the new card and pick a template |
| **Chart** | A chart. The **Chart editor** opens so you can build it. See [Build a chart](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/build-a-chart.md) |
| **KPI card** | One key figure. The **Chart editor** opens with the **KPI card** chart type selected |
| **Radial gauge card** | Progress shown as a round gauge, built in the **Chart editor** |
| **Linear gauge card** | Progress shown as a bar, built in the **Chart editor** |
| **Title** | A main heading. Type the text straight on the card |
| **Subtitle** | A subheading. Type the text straight on the card |

A chart, KPI card or gauge that you close in the **Chart editor** without data is removed from the tab again.

## Arrange and resize

In edit mode:

* Drag a card to move it. The other cards make room
* Drag a card's edge or corner to resize it
* Click a card to select it. Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on Mac) selects several cards

## Edit an element

* **Table**: in edit mode, use the template bar at the top of the card to switch to another report template. Filters, columns and budget are set with the table's own controls. See [Set up report columns](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/columns.md) and [Set the report date range](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/date-range.md)
* **Chart, KPI card or gauge**: in edit mode, click the card to open the **Chart editor**. In view mode, use **Edit chart** in the **Actions** menu
* **Title or subtitle**: in edit mode, click the text and type

## Delete an element

Click **Delete card** (trash icon) in the card header. In edit mode the card disappears at once and is deleted when you save. In view mode Caleido asks you to confirm before it deletes the card.

## Save or cancel

* **Save** keeps every change you made since you clicked **Edit workbook**
* **Cancel** discards them and restores the tab as it was

If you close the **Items** panel with unsaved changes, Caleido asks whether to save or discard them.

## Card actions

Each card header shows a few pinned commands, by default **Export card as PDF**, **Edit workbook…** and **Assign to workbook**. All commands are in the **Actions** menu in the top bar:

* **Export card as PDF**, **Export card as PNG** and **Copy card as image** export one card. See [Export a report](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/export-a-report.md)
* **Assign to workbook** copies the card to a tab in another workbook
* Table commands, such as filters, columns and export to Excel, apply to the selected table

If no card is selected and the command fits several cards, Caleido asks **Which card?** so you can pick one. To pin a command to the card headers, use the pin next to it in the **Actions** menu.
