# Glossary

> Look up Caleido terms with their names in the app and find the page that explains each one.

This glossary explains the terms used in Caleido and in this documentation. The **In the app** column shows the name the term has in Caleido's interface.

## Data and bookkeeping

| Term | In the app | Meaning |

| Actuals | **Actuals** (**ACT**) | Figures from your bookkeeping. See [Actuals, budgets and forecasts](https://support.caleido.io/concepts/actuals-budgets-and-forecasts.md) |
| Transaction | **Transaction** | One voucher or entry, imported from the accounting system or added in Caleido. See [Use the general ledger and journal](https://support.caleido.io/guides/transactions/general-ledger.md) |
| Transaction line | **Transaction line** | One line of a transaction, with an account, an amount, a counterparty and dimension items |
| Counterparty | **Counterparty** | The customer, supplier or employee of a transaction or budget item |
| General ledger | **General ledger** | All transactions grouped by account. See [Use the general ledger and journal](https://support.caleido.io/guides/transactions/general-ledger.md) |
| General journal | **General journal** | All transactions in date order |
| Journal entry | **Add journal entry** | An entry you add in Caleido, for example a correction or a reversal. See [Create a journal entry](https://support.caleido.io/guides/transactions/journal-entries.md) |
| Payment date | **Payment date** | When money actually moved. The direct cash flow uses it. See [Direct cash flow](https://support.caleido.io/concepts/direct-cash-flow.md) |
| Accrual | **Accrual** | An entry booked to a balance sheet account before it is paid. See [Link payments to accruals](https://support.caleido.io/guides/cash-flow/link-payments-to-accruals.md) |
| Integration | **Integrations** | The connection to your accounting system or bank. See [How Caleido works](https://support.caleido.io/concepts/how-caleido-works.md) |
| Key accounts | **Key accounts** | The default accounts Caleido uses for budgeting, such as cash in bank and cost accruals |

## Statements and mapping

| Term | In the app | Meaning |

| Profit & loss | **Profit & loss** | The income statement |
| Balance sheet | **Balance sheet** | Assets, equity and liabilities at a point in time |
| Direct cash flow | **Cash flow** | Cash in and out by type, built with the direct method. See [Direct cash flow](https://support.caleido.io/concepts/direct-cash-flow.md) |
| Account mapping | **Account mapping** | Where each account belongs in the statements. See [Map accounts to the statements](https://support.caleido.io/guides/settings/account-mapping.md) |
| Cash flow mapping | **Cash flow mapping** | Where each account's debit and credit movements belong in the cash flow. See [Map accounts to the cash flow](https://support.caleido.io/guides/settings/cash-flow-mapping.md) |
| Bank balances | **Bank balances** | Balances read from your bank. See [Connect bank accounts and view bank balances](https://support.caleido.io/guides/cash-flow/bank-balances.md) |
| Cash available | **Cash available** | The balances of the bank accounts and overdraft limits you include in available cash |
| Liquid funds | **Liquid funds** | Other funds you count as cash, such as money market investments |

## Dimensions and labeling

| Dimension | **Dimension** | A way to group data, such as department, product or project |
| Dimension item | **Dimension item** | One value of a dimension, such as *Sales team* or *Product A* |
| Labeling | **Label** | Attaching dimension items to transaction lines. See [Label data on a report](https://support.caleido.io/guides/dimensions/label-data.md) |
| Labeling rule | **Labeling rules** | A rule that labels matching transaction lines automatically. See [Automate labeling with rules](https://support.caleido.io/guides/dimensions/labeling-rules.md) |
| Split | **Split** | Dividing a transaction line between several dimension items by percentage |

## Reports

| Term | In the app | Meaning |

| Report template | **Report template** | The rows of a report and their order. See [Edit a report template](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/edit-a-report.md) |
| Builder | **Builder** | Where you create and edit report templates |
| Library | **Library** | Ready-made report templates, charts and column presets. See [Use the report library](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/report-library.md) |
| Formula | **Formula** | A calculated row, for example a margin or a ratio |
| Subtotal | **Subtotal** | A row that sums the rows above it |
| Columns | **Columns** | What data each column of a report shows. See [Set up report columns](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/columns.md) |
| Column preset | **Column preset** | A saved set of columns you can apply to any report |
| Cadence | **Cadence** | The period length of the columns: week, month, quarter, half-year or year |
| Date range | **Date range** | The periods a report shows, set separately for actuals and budget. See [Set the report date range](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/date-range.md) |
| Number formatting | **Number formatting** | Decimals, units and signs of the numbers. See [Format numbers in a report](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/number-formatting.md) |
| List view | **List view** | The transactions and budget items behind the selected cells. Opens with Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on Mac) |

## Budgeting

| Term | In the app | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| Budget | **Budget** (**BUD**) | A named plan made of budget items. See [Create a budget](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/create-a-budget.md) |
| Budget item | **Budget item** | One planned item, such as rent or a salary, that generates budget figures with double-entry logic. See [Edit budget items](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/edit-budget-items.md) |
| Budget panel | **Budget panel…** | Where you create budgets and set their details |
| Overview | **Overview** | The panel that lists and edits the budget items behind the selected cells. Opens and closes with Ctrl+Shift+Enter (Cmd+Shift+Enter on Mac) |
| Inline budgeting | Not named in the app | Typing budget and forecast values straight into report cells, which creates or changes budget items. See [Budget in the report grid](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/budget-in-the-report-grid.md) |
| Field helper | **Field picker settings** (its settings) | The popup under a budget or forecast cell where you set budget item fields by typing. Opens with Arrow down while editing, or M. See [Budget in the report grid](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/budget-in-the-report-grid.md) |
| Apply | **Apply** | Saves the typed cell value and the field changes in the field helper |
| Auto-save | **Auto-save** | A field helper setting that saves field changes when you move to another cell, without **Apply** |
| Fill handle | Not named in the app | The corner of a selected budget cell that you drag to copy its value to other periods |
| Budget item series | **Budget item series** | A recurring budget item, which has a value in each of its periods |
| Series change scope | **Apply change to series** | The choice of whether a change to a recurring series applies to **This period only**, **This and following periods** or **All periods** |
| Multiple budget items | **Multiple budget items** | The window that opens when you type into a cell that is the total of several budget items, where you choose to add, replace or delete |
| Default budget | **Set as default** | The budget that opens first. See [Manage budgets](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/manage-budgets.md) |
| Locked budget | **Lock budget** | A budget that can't be edited until it is unlocked |
| Model end | **Model end** | How far ahead a budget's recurring items are generated |
| Forecast | **Forecast** (**FCT**) | Actuals for past periods joined with the budget for future periods. See [Actuals, budgets and forecasts](https://support.caleido.io/concepts/actuals-budgets-and-forecasts.md) |
| Scenario | **Scenario** | A what-if version on top of a budget. See [Plan with scenarios and investments](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/scenarios.md) |
| Investment | **Investment** | A set of new budget items you can move between budgets |
| Variables | **Variables** | Default values for budget calculations, such as VAT rates and payment terms |
| Contracts | **Contracts** | All recurring budget items of a budget in one list, such as salaries, rents and sales contracts. See [Manage contracts](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/contracts.md) |
| Loan calculator | **Loan…** | Builds a loan repayment schedule into the budget. See [Budget a loan with the loan calculator](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/loan-calculator.md) |
| Depreciation schedule | **Depreciation…** | Plans asset depreciation into the budget. See [Budget asset depreciation](https://support.caleido.io/guides/budgeting/depreciation-schedule.md) |

## Search

| Term | In the app | Meaning |

| Global search | **Search anything…** | The search box in the top bar that finds any object and runs actions on it. Opens with Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac). See [Find anything with global search](https://support.caleido.io/get-started/global-search.md) |
| Favorites | **Favorites** | Objects, object types and actions you have pinned to the top of the global search list |
| Related items | **Open related items** | Browsing into an object in global search, for example every transaction, invoice and budget item of a counterparty |

## Receivables and payables

| Term | In the app | Meaning |

| Receivables & payables | **Receivables & payables** | Open sales and purchase invoices. See [Review receivables and payables](https://support.caleido.io/guides/receivables-payables/receivables-and-payables.md) |
| Accounts receivable | **Accounts receivable** | Sales invoices your customers haven't paid yet |
| Accounts payable | **Accounts payable** | Purchase invoices you haven't paid yet |
| Aging report | **Aging report** | Open invoices grouped by how many days they are past due |
| Expected payment date | **Expected payment date** | When an open invoice is expected to be paid, used in the cash flow forecast |

## Workbooks

| Tab | **Tab** | One sheet of a workbook or report page |
| Element | **Element** | A card on a tab: a table, chart, KPI card, gauge or title. See [Add elements to a tab](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/add-elements-to-a-tab.md) |
| Chart editor | **Chart editor** | Where you build charts. See [Build a chart](https://support.caleido.io/guides/reporting/build-a-chart.md) |
| Chart tab | **Chart tab** | A tab that shows one chart full size |
| KPI card | **KPI card** | An element that shows one key figure |
| Curated workbook | **Curated** | A ready-made workbook from Caleido that you can use as your own copy |
| Shared workbook | **Shared** | A workbook everyone in your organization can see. See [Share a workbook](https://support.caleido.io/guides/workbooks/share-a-workbook.md) |
| Version | **Save as version** | A saved snapshot of a workbook you can switch back to |
