Copying a budget is a quick way to create a new budget version, for example a high case next to your base case, without starting from scratch. The copy gets the original’s start date, end date, model end and budget items. Scenarios are not copied. The copy starts as a Draft, is not the default budget and is not locked. Its budget items are generated in the background, so the figures can take a moment to appear.
If you only want to try out changes on top of an existing budget, a scenario may suit you better than a full copy.

Duplicate the budget

1

Open the budget panel

On a report table, open Actions and select Data > Budget panel…. You can also click the budget name in the top bar and click the pencil icon next to any budget.
2

Duplicate

In the budget list, right-click the budget you want to copy and select Duplicate. If the budget’s details are already open, click Actions at the bottom of the panel and select Duplicate.
3

Rename the copy

The copy opens in the panel with the name of the original followed by (copy). Change the Name, for example to High, and add a Short name if you use one. Check the other details.
4

Save

Click Save.

Show the copy on a report

  • On a workbook tab, pick the copy in the table’s budget selector
  • On other pages, click the budget name in the top bar and select the copy
See Manage budgets for more.

Adjust the copy

Change the budget items of the copy to match the new scenario, for example raise sales amounts by 10 %. Show the copy on a report and type new values straight into its budget cells, or select the cells and edit the budget items in the Overview panel. See Budget in the report grid and Edit budget items. Changes to the copy don’t affect the original budget.
