Number formatting changes how numbers are displayed on a report. You can set, for example, the separators, the position of the currency sign, scaling, rounding and how negative numbers and zeros are shown. The settings only change the display, never the underlying data or calculations.

Quick guide

The video below gives a short walkthrough of number formatting. It was recorded in an earlier version of Caleido, so the way you open the settings looks different. The steps below match the current version.

Open number formatting

  1. Open the report.
  2. Click Actions. In a workbook, the Actions button is at the top right of the page.
  3. Choose Configure > Number formatting….
The Number formatting window has four tabs. Make your changes and click Apply.

General

  • Thousand separator: None, Space, . or ,
  • Decimal sign: . or ,. A thousand separator that matches the decimal sign can’t be selected
  • Decimals: 0, 1 or 2
By default Caleido uses a space as the thousand separator, a comma as the decimal sign and no decimals (1 250).

Currency

  • Currency position: None hides the currency sign. Before (left) places it at the left edge of the cell, Before (right) right before the number and After after the number
  • Scale: show numbers as they are (None), in thousands (1 000) or in millions (1 000 000). When numbers are scaled, a thousands or millions badge appears next to the report title
  • Round to nearest: round numbers to the nearest 100, 1 000, 10 000, 100 000 or 1 000 000

Negatives

  • Negative sign: None hides the sign, − (left) places the minus sign at the left edge of the cell, − (right) right before the number, and ( ) shows negative numbers in parentheses
  • Negative color: Red shows negative numbers in red

Visibility

  • Hide numbers smaller than: numbers below the value you enter are hidden but still calculated normally
  • Zeros: Hide, show as 0 or show as -
  • Missing data: show cells without data as Empty, 0 or -
Hiding small numbers and zeros reduces visual noise and helps the key figures stand out.

Restore defaults

Click Reset defaults at the bottom left of the Number formatting window to return to Caleido’s default settings.
Number formatting is saved per report template in your browser. It applies wherever you open that template on the same browser, and other users keep their own settings.
