Charts are built in the Chart editor. A chart is made of one or more series. Each series plots one data source, such as a report template row, a formula, a dimension item or a bank balance, with its own chart type and color. A saved chart can be placed on any number of workbook tabs.

Open the chart editor

You can open the Chart editor in several ways:
  • From a report table: select the rows you want to chart, right-click and select Create chart…. You can also use Create chart on selected in the table’s Actions menu. The editor opens with one series per selected row
  • From the sidebar: click New and select Chart
  • On a workbook tab: add a Chart, KPI card or gauge in edit mode, or click an existing chart in edit mode. See Add elements to a tab
  • As a chart tab: in a workbook, click New in the sidebar and select Chart tab, or click + (Add tab) in the tab bar and select + New chart tab. The new tab holds one full-width chart and the editor opens straight away
  • From the Library: select a chart and click Edit chart

Choose or start a chart

The chart picker at the top left lists your saved charts. Select one to edit it, or start from scratch with New chart in the Actions menu. Hover over a chart in the picker to Rename chart, Duplicate chart or Delete chart. Save as new saves the chart you are looking at as a new chart under a name you choose. Changes to a chart that is already saved are saved automatically.

Add and edit series

The Series row above the chart works on one series at a time.
1

Pick a series

Open the series list on the left of the Series row and click a series. Select All series to change a setting for every series at once
2

Add a series

In the series list, click Add series. You can also use Add series in the settings panel, where Add comparison adds a series that compares two others
3

Choose what it plots

Click Data source and pick a row from the lists: Report template rows, Statutory rows, Formulas, Dimensions, Dimension items, Bank accounts, Bank account balances, Overdrafts, Liquid funds or Cash available
4

Set the dates

Use the date chip next to the data source to set the series’ date range, or select Inherit dates from a series to follow another series
5

Style it

Use the Chart type and Color chips. More settings, such as labels and the series name, are behind More… at the end of the row. Pin a setting there to keep it on the row
In the series list you can also rename, duplicate, reorder, hide or delete a series. Hiding keeps the series in the chart but stops drawing it.

Chart types

Each series has its own chart type: Column, Bar, Line, Area, Pie, Radial gauge, Treemap, Sankey, KPI card or Linear gauge card. Column, bar and area charts can be Simple, Stacked or Grouped, and more. Treemap and Sankey need a Breakdown dimension to draw anything. A comparison series can’t use them.

Set layout and cadence

The Layout row sets chart-wide options:
  • Layout quickly sets up actuals and budget series: Actuals only, Budget only, Compare budgets, Planning: actuals + budget or Comparison: budget vs. actuals. Custom means you have set the series up yourself
  • Cadence sets the period length for every series. Under Cadence source, choose Actuals or Budget to follow the report’s cadence, or Custom to pick one yourself
  • More… opens the chart’s own settings, such as title, legend, axes and number format

Filter a series

1

Select the series

Pick the series you want to filter on the Series row
2

Add a filter

In the Actions menu, select Add filter
3

Choose a dimension or attribute

In Add filter, search for a dimension, or pick an item under Attributes, such as Statement type or Credit-card transactions
The filter shows as a chip under the chart toolbar. Click the chip to change the selected values, or remove it. Clear filters removes every filter from the series. Filters aren’t available for every data source type.

Add a trendline

Trendlines are available for column, bar, line and area series.
1

Open the series settings

In the settings panel on the left, under Series, click the series
2

Open Trendline

Open the Trendline section and switch on Trendline
3

Choose the type

Choose a Type: Linear, Exponential, Logarithmic, Polynomial (set the Degree) or Moving average (set the Window size). Pick a Color, and switch on Show equation or Show R² if you need them
When the series has a breakdown dimension, Use total as trendline draws one trendline for the total instead of one per breakdown value.

Put the chart on a tab

  • When you opened the editor from a workbook tab, click Done. The chart stays on that tab. Close the editor without saving and Caleido asks whether to Save chart or Discard chart
  • Assign opens Assign chart with the workbook and tab that are open behind the editor already selected. Change them if needed, give the chart a name if it isn’t saved yet, and click Assign
  • Assign to tab… in the Actions menu lets you pick any workbook and tab, or create a + New workbook or + New tab. A chart can go on more than one tab

Other tools

The Actions menu also has:
  • Undo and Redo
  • Full screen to give the chart the whole screen
  • Copy chart as image and Export chart as PNG. See Export a report
